Chapel Hill, Durham libraries line up massive book sales

Need some new books? Stock up at a couple of giant book sales that are coming up.

Groups supporting the Chapel Hill Public Library and Durham County Library will hold book sales this month, offering thousands of books at some great prices. These are great opportunities to stock up on books for the school year. Both sales will feature many books for kids of all ages.

Here are the details.

Chapel Hill Book Sale

The Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library will have more than 20,000 books, movies, vinyl, games and more on sale at the Big Book Sale from Sept. 7 to Sept. 9 at Chapel Hill Public Library, 100 Library Drive. All proceeds benefit the library’s programs, collection and services, according to a press release.

Hours

  • 3 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7 (for members only, but you can purchase a membership at the door for between $10 and $35);
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday;
  • and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday.

The library's Friends Book Store also will be open from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday.

Prices

They start at just 50 cents for children’s books and mass market paperbacks, with most books priced under $3. Sunday is the $5 bag sale. Bring your own bag, fill it up and pay just $5. Also, new this year on Sunday, all electronics, CDs, DVDs, eBooks and vinyl are now part of Sunday’s bag sale along with all those books.

Durham Book Sale

The Books Among Friends Big Book Sale is Sept. 15 and Sept. 16 at Northgate Mall, 1058 W. Club Blvd., Durham.

Hours

  • 10 a.m. to noon, Sept. 15 (for members only, but memberships are available for purchase for $15 or $25, at the door);
  • noon to 4 p.m., Sept. 15 (open to the public);
  • and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sept. 16.

Prices

At these sales, hardbacks are typically $3, trade paperbacks are $2, small paperbacks are $1, and children’s books are 25 cents to $1. Special books are priced as marked. On Sept. 16, fill a bag with books and pay just $10.
