CBC's Draughon is 3-time winner of prestigious EPPY award for editorial cartoons
Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023 -- For the third time since 2019, Capitol Broadcasting Company's editorial cartoonist Dennis Draughon, has won Editor& Publisher Magazine's EPPY Award for best editorial/political cartoons. The annual competition recognizes the best in digital news publishing.

For the third time since 2019, Capitol Broadcasting Company’s editorial cartoonist Dennis Draughon, has won Editor & Publisher Magazine’s EPPY Award for best editorial/political cartoons. The annual competition recognizes the best in digital news publishing.
“Exactly what art is meant to be - jarring, leaves you uncomfortable, but forever thinking about what we can do differently,” commented the judges. “Straight forward, context and perspective clearly given. Very solid political cartoons.”
Draughon has also won EPPY’s for editorial cartooning in 2021 and 2019.
Draughon, 62, has been Capitol Broadcasting Company’s editorial cartoonist since 2017. During his 38-year career, which he launched at the former Raleigh Times, he also worked for the Scranton (Pa.) Times-Tribune, The Durham News, The Fayetteville Observer and the (N.C.) Insider.
His work has been previously recognized with the 1993 Fischetti Award for Distinguished Achievement in editorial cartoons and the Golden Spike Award from the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists in 1999.
His work won recognition for sites under 1 million unique monthly visitors.
