The town of Cary will begin its yearly street resurfacing project Monday, with plans to repave about 22 miles in the next several months.

The $4.5 million project, which targets about 5 percent of town-owned streets, will prompt periodic lane closures at 199 locations. Work will be done from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, weather permitting.

“A good maintenance program helps avoid full reconstruction costs at a later time; a slight inconvenience today instead of a major detour tomorrow,” Tom Ellis, a senior engineer with the town, said in a statement Friday.

Ellis said work on Lake Pine Drive, East Chatham Street and Cary Parkway should be the only locations with major driving delays.
