Fuquay-Varina police on Thursday arrested a Cary man whom they say asked a 5-year-old girl's mother over text message if he could have sex with her child.

Brett Howard Hilton, of 2118 Highstone Road, was arrested Thursday on a charge of solicitation to commit first-degree sexual offense on a child and placed in the Wake County jail under $200,000 bond.

A search warrant in the case also suggests that the child's mother entertained Hilton's requests.

Fuquay-Varina police say the arrest stems from a complaint investigators received Tuesday from Wake County Human Services.

Police said the girl was not harmed and is currently in protective custody.
