Carrboro launches local food hub amid coronavirus outbreak

A group of Carrboro restaurants, farmers and town leaders have formed a food hub to serve residents amid the COVID-19 outbreak, officials announced Thursday.

Carrboro United will operate similar to a CSA, providing options for food pickup three times a week on"Hub Days." The group is getting food from trusted local, restaurants, farmers and purveyors each week.

Customers can order from a selection of heat and serve meals from local restaurants, a selection of ready to cook meat from Firsthand Foods and produce from farmers within 50 miles of Carrboro.

Orders can be placed online by noon the day before each Hub Day, and picked up between noon and 4 p.m. in front of Cat's Cradle at 300 E. Main St.

Hub Days will be every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The first day of operation is Saturday, March 21 and will feature meals from Acme, Neal’s Deli and Glasshalfull, and a meat box from Firsthand Foods. Menus will change weekly.

Acme Food and Beverage and former Fleet Feet CEO Tom Raynor helped launch the initiative.
