The annual Carolina Renaissance Festival has been canceled this year due to coronavirus concerns, organizers announced Monday.

“At the heart of the Renaissance Festival is a cornucopia of socially interactive experiences that is hard to compromise with the necessities of social distancing. For the health and safety of our participants, for our guests, and for everyone’s families, and the communities all will arrive from, we look to be part of the virus mitigation solution,” festival producer Jeffrey Siegel said.

Established in 1994, the event is held every fall in Huntersville, just outside of Charlotte. The festival normally features 14 stages of music, comedy and circus arts, in addition to a crafts marketplace, games, rides and jousting knights.

Organizers said the event will return next year on Saturdays and Sundays, Oct. 2 through Nov. 21, 2021.
