A crash on Interstate 40 near the Clayton Bypass caused several lanes of traffic to be closed, resulting in traffic delays.

Several cars were involved in crashes Saturday night on Interstate 40 near the Clayton Bypass.

It happened around 11:04 p.m. Saturday and several lanes of traffic were closed Saturday night, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

WRAL News saw an overturned car at the scene.

Fire crews told WRAL News that a separate car caught fire on I-40 about a mile from where the car overturned.

Crews were on the scene to put the fire out. At least two cars were involved in this crash.

Cars were backed up along I-40.

WRAL News has called the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, who is on the scene working to clear the interstate.

NCDOT estimated the interstate would clear around 1 a.m. Sunday.
