Car hits school building in Durham, man shot in arm

A car crashed into a building at the North Carolina School of Science and Math in Durham, and police believe it was connected to a nearby shooting.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday night, police responded to what they called a "disturbance" on Broad Street – arriving to find an empty Dodge Charger crashed into the building. There is minimal structural damage, and no students were on campus due to the holiday break.

A short time later, a victim with a gunshot wound to the arm approached firefighters and officers. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the shooting does not appear to be random. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Durham Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

WRAL News is still working to learn more about how the shooting is connected.
