Searching for missing Wake County inmate in stolen truck

Wake Correctional Center inmate Ronnie Dwayne East, 41, is back in custody after law enforcement tracked him down in Randolph County using GPS on the stolen pickup truck.

Friday afternoon, East stole a state-owned pickup truck while working at a warehouse at 200 Leagan Drive in Raleigh, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction.

East is serving a four-year sentence for breaking and entering and larceny in Randolph County. He was classified as a minimum-custody offender and was scheduled for release in July 2026.

Authorities discovered East was missing around 3:15 p.m and tracked him down just before 6 p.m.
