Cancer support program to host The Big Wig Out
Claire Weinberg, a mom and breast cancer survivor who shared her story about her treatment at Duke on Go Ask Mom earlier this year, let me know about a big event to benefit the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program.
The Big Wig Out on Oct. 8 at the Doris Duke Center at Duke Gardens will include an upscale disco, a survivor self-expression catwalk and show, performances by female impersonators, an auction and more. It will all support the program's Self-Image Boutique, which gives out wigs, hats, turbans, scarves and other items to patients undergoing treatment.
Tickets are $50. And there's a silent auction too with some pretty amazing items including a Cartier ring; two nights at Richard's Camp in the Masai Mara, Kenya; and a chance to meet actor Kevin Spacey in London where he is artistic director of the Old Vic theater.
For details, check the program's Facebook page.
