Can't adopt? You can still help shelter pets
Pet ownership is not right for every household, but there are ways that everyone can help homeless pets.
Volunteer
This is one of the best ways you can support homeless animals and the people who care for them in our community! From dog walkers, to kennel cleaners to envelope stuffers and event volunteers, no task is too small!
Donate
This is also one of the ways you can help make the biggest impact for homeless pets. While some animal shelters are taxpayer-funded, some private shelters and rescue groups are donor-funded. For non-profit groups, how many animals they can save and the amount of staff they can provide all depend on donations. Shelters can also benefit from people donating items on their “Wish Lists” such as cleaning supplies, specified brands of kitten and puppy food.

Advocate
Familiarize yourself with animal laws in North Carolina and the candidates running for office. Politicians ultimately set the rules for how animals are protected, what is defined as “cruelty,” and what the potential punishment is for violating those laws. Be a voice for the animals.
Spay/Neuter your pets
Each year, millions of pets are euthanized in shelters across the country due to pet overpopulation. There simply isn’t enough space to take in every stray animal. By spaying/neutering your own pets, you can help reduce the amount of stray and homeless pets in the community.
