Cabarrus Street Rail Crossing to Close for 3 Weeks

Norfolk Southern Railway has notified Amtrak and the N.C. Department of Transportation that it will close the Cabarrus Street rail crossing adjacent to the Raleigh Amtrak station beginning Sept. 10.

Norfolk Southern Railway has notified Amtrak and the N.C. Department of Transportation that it will close the Cabarrus Street rail crossing adjacent to the Raleigh Amtrak station beginning Sept. 10.

NS estimates the crossing might be closed through Oct. 1.

Railroad work crews plan to install new signal and switch equipment at Cabarrus Street, permanently remove some of the tracks in the crossing and realign a connection track.

Detour routes will be signed. Amtrak customers are encouraged to allow additional travel time to the Amtrak station. Motorists are also encouraged to allow extra time through the detour route.
