Triangle Home Sales Rebound in February But Cool 10% from ‘06

Average prices jump 21% from 2006, but number of sales are down from ’06. Statewide, sales increase 7% from January. Wilson market jumps 23% from ’06, but Fayetteville, Rocky Mount, Pinehurst sales decline.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sales of new and existing homes across the Triangle increased 6 percent in February over January but were 10 percent less than one year ago, according to figures released Friday by the North Carolina Association of REALTORS.

Prices are up substantially over 2006, however, jumping 21 percent to an average sale of $236,910.

Statewide, sales of existing homes increased 7 percent from January but still were 6 percent under 2006’s total.

The REALTORS statistics for the Triangle include new and existing homes.

In all, 2,227 homes sold last month, up from 2,183 in January. In feburary of 2006, however, 2,467 homes were sold.

The hottest market locally was Wilson where sales jumped last month to 76 homes. That’s 23 percent higher than in 2006 and up 15 sales from January. Prices increased 7 percent over a year ago to $136,882.

In Pinehurst, sales fell to 95 in February from 119 in January and 97 in February of 2006. Prices dropped as well, down to $226,685 or 8 percent less than last year.

Fayetteville sales increased to 316 in February from 299 in January but were down 24 percent compared to 2006. Prices did climb 11 percent to $116,273.

Rocky Mount sales were virtually the same in February (94) and January (93). A year ago, 102 homes sold in the city. Prices were up 13 percent to $123,702.

Statewide, the average sales price was $213,879.
