A shopping center anchored by a department store has been proposed for a site formerly occupied by an automotive parts supplier.

Wake Union Place would sit on 68 acres on Wake Union Church Road, near the intersection of Capital Boulevard and N.C. Highway 98. Parker Hannifin closed its manufacturing plant on the site five years ago.

The proposed development would include a department store, other retail chains and possibly some non-retail use, officials said.

The developer was expected to meet with neighbors Wednesday to lay out plans for the site, discuss issues like roadway improvements and buffers and answer questions.
