Burglary suspect charged with stabbing young mother

A young Fayetteville mother survived an attack by an assailant who stabbed her during a burglary of her home early Sunday, police said.

Sgt. Pam Brewington said that a man broke into a home at 6522 Baldoon Drive around 12:45 a.m. and stabbed 21-year-old Tabitha Dupree.

Dupree suffered deep lacerations and required stitches, but her injuries are non-life-threatening, police said. She was listed in good condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Sunday afternoon.

Dupree's 18-month-old daughter was in the home during the attack but had only a bump on the head.

Police said that Dupree's husband restrained the suspect – identified as Jonathan Monk, 24, of 607 Apt. D Brittany Place – until they arrived to arrest him.

Monk was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and first-degree burglary.

He was placed in the Cumberland County jail under a $100,000 secured bond.
