Brr! It's the coldest day of fall so far

With a high of only 63 degrees expected in Raleigh, Thursday is the coolest day of the fall season so far.

At noon, when the North Carolina State Fair opens, temperatures will be around 60 degrees in Raleigh. According to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, they'll reach their peak of 63 degrees around 4 or 5 p.m.

It will be a chilly evening at the fair, with temperatures in the 50s by 7 or 8 p.m.

Overnight, temperatures will drop into the mid 40s. There will be a chill in the air again Friday morning, and temperatures will be similar to Thursday's, with a high of only 64 degrees in Raleigh. Both days should be sunny and brisk -- the perfect fall days.

Saturday will start off pleasant as well, with sunny skies and warmer temperatures that will top off around 68 degrees in Raleigh.

Clouds will increase throughout the afternoon, and Saturday evening, a chance for rain moves in. Rain is not expected until after sunset, Gardner said, so outdoor plans will be safe for most of Saturday.

Sunday will be a warmer but cloudy day and rain and tropical moisture moves through central North Carolina. According to Gardner, rain will be heavy at times but should decrease by Sunday afternoon.
