The emergency room and most outpatient clinics at the Fayetteville Veteran Affairs Medical Center will be shut through Thursday after a water pipe broke, flooding the facility.

Spokesman Ed Dronan said that a 2.5-inch pipe on the second story broke around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Water flooded the radiology department and many outpatient clinics in the basement.

The leak was stopped by Wednesday afternoon, and repairs were under way, Dronan said.

The ER is expected to reopen by 8 a.m. Thursday, and most outpatient clinics will reopen at noon. The audiology and dental clinics will open at their regular time.

All surgical and gastrointestinal procedures on Thursday have been canceled.
