Brief lockdown at Athens Drive High resulted from police search for student
Athens Drive Magnet High School in Raleigh was on a Code Red lockdown Wednesday during the lunch hour after a student, trying to elude police, jumped out a window.
In a call to parents, Principal Steve Mares said that law enforcement officers were in the school looking for the student for a reason not related to the school. He did not say what that reason was.
"As they approached the student's classroom, the student exited through a window," Mares said in the automated call.
The escape attempt failed, and law enforcement quickly caught the student away from the Athens Drive campus. The school was locked down – no one was allowed to enter or exit the building – for about 10 minutes.
Mares called the lockdown and the law enforcement presence "a bit of a disruption."
