Work in east Durham may cause delays through March

We're getting closer to the opening of the East End Connector in Durham!

With only weeks to go before the direct route, to be known as Interstate 885, links Durham Freeway (N.C. Highway 147) south of downtown to Interstate 85 to the north, a temporary bridge used during construction is being demolished.

The railroad bridge over U.S. Highway 70 just south of Holloway Street is coming down. Through the month of March, drivers in that area can expect overnight lane closures and occasionally slow-rolling road blocks.

Once the bridge is gone, crews will finish the paving and lane marking to get U.S. 70 ready.

Then, they'll install the signage to mark the new interstate. The East End Connector is scheduled to open to traffic this spring.
