Bragg paratrooper killed in Afghanistan

An Army soldier based at Fort Bragg was killed in combat Tuesday, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

Army Staff Sgt. Donald V. Stacy, 23, of Avondale, Ariz., was killed by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar on June 28, 2011. He is a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart recipient.

An Army soldier based at Fort Bragg died Tuesday in Afghanistan after his unit was attacked by insurgents, the Defense Department said Wednesday.

Staff Sgt. Donald V. Stacy, 23, of Avondale, Ariz., was killed by an improvised explosive device in Kandahar. He is a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart recipient.

Stacy was a squad leader in Company B, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.

He is survived by his mother. This was his third tour of duty since joining the Army; he deployed to Iraq in 2006 and again in 2008.
