Boys Tennis Rankings: Providence Day, Providence, Jordan among those moving up at midseason

It's maybe a week late on our HighSchoolOT boys tennis "midseason" rankings, but even the extra week doesn't explain the big changes since the season began.

For starters, there's a new No. 1 team as Providence Day takes the helm. Providence moves up to second, Jordan to third, and Cannon School to fourth. Cary Academy, which beat previous No. 1 Green Hope, is fifth followed by the Falcons in sixth.

Five new teams join the statewide top 25 and a whopping 19 newcomers join the area code top 15 rankings. Only one of the six area codes has the same No. 1 team as the preseason, and that's Providence Day staying atop the 704.

Rankings reminders:

• Rankings are updated three times — midseason, end of the regular season, and final rankings
• All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
• There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also three times
• Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
• Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
