A Raleigh teenager has been charged with causing a wreck Wednesday evening that injured a 4-year-old boy in her SUV.

The wreck report states that Wendy Esmeralda Funes-Pineda, 17, turned left from Poole Road into the path of an oncoming car on New Hope Road. All five occupants of both vehicles were transported to WakeMed.

Funes-Pineda told police that she didn't see the oncoming car, according to the wreck report.

Christopher Funes, 4, who was a passenger in Funes-Pineda's SUV, was listed in critical condition Thursday.

Funes-Pineda and the car driver, 22-year-old Brittney Kittrell, also suffered serious injuries.

Kittrell's passengers – 23-month-old Khiren Smith and 18-year-old William Kornegay – sustained less serious injuries. Smith was in good condition Thursday, and Kornegay had been treated and released from the hospital.

Funes-Pineda, of 5224 Pronghorn Lane, was charged with driving without an operators license and unsafe movement.
