Rescuers search for man on Lake Wheeler

Crews recovered the body of a Raleigh man who went missing while fishing on Lake Wheeler Saturday morning, police said.

Members of the N.C. Canine Emergency Response team searched the water overnight and found the body of Darryl Raynard Kimble, 49, around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police said they were still piecing together what caused Kimble's death, but nothing indicates foul play. His body was sent to the state Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

Family members said that Kimble was married and had children. He worked for the Town of Cary in the finance department.

On Saturday, officers found Kimble's boat adrift on the lake between Penny and Lake Wheeler roads and a pair of shoes along the lakeshore where he is believed to have gotten in the water.

The Wake County Division of Emergency Management, Wake County Sheriff's Office and the Apex, Fairview, Holly Springs and Raleigh fire departments helped in the search for Kimble.

Lake Wheeler was open as normal Sunday.
