Body of missing man found in pond in Harnett County

The body of a missing man was found in a pond Monday in Harnett County, and the sheriff's office is investigating his death as a homicide.

Jimmy Ray Matthews, 55, of Dunn, had been missing since April 8, when he was last seen in a wooded area near Triton High School. Investigators said people had also seen him in the area around the Triton Quick Mart.

On Monday, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office 911 center received a call about what appeared to be a dead body in a pond at 495 Maynard Lake Road. Erwin Emergency personnel recovered the body of from the pond using a watercraft.
