Cumberland Co. detectives identify man who was found dead in Cape Fear River

Deputies said the preliminary investigation revealed a male victim was pronounced dead on the scene Saturday afternoon

On Tuesday, Detectives with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office identified the man who was found dead in the Cape Fear River Saturday.

Police identified the victim as Nicholas Delgrippo, 19, of Spring Lake.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Delgrippo was found at the Fayetteville Boarding Access Area at 2517 Wilmington Highway.

Delgrippo was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives with the Sheriff's Office initially were unable to determine the Delgrippo's identity at the initial discovery and had requested public assistance in identifying him.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
