One person died when an ultralight aircraft crashed in the ocean on Wednesday at the Outer Banks.

An ultralight glider with two passengers malfunctioned and landed in the water in the vicinity of 120 Ocean Boulevard in Southern Shores, according to authorities with the town of Southern Shores.

One person was rescued and brought to shore. Hours later, the second passenger's body was found.

The names of the victims were not provided.

Southern Shores fire and rescue, Kill Devil Hills surf rescue, Coast Guard, Southern Shores fire, Southern Shores Ocean Rescue, Southern Shores police, Duck fire and rescue and TI Coastal all helped with rescue and recovery effort.
