Apartment fire displaces 13 in Fayetteville

No one was injured in a fire that damaged eight apartments in Fayetteville late Wednesday.

Authorities said the blaze broke out at the Briarcliff complex on Tryon Drive about 11 p.m. Windy conditions helped the fire spread quickly.

"I heard someone beating at my door, woke up. My wife started screaming, 'There's a fire,'" resident Duane Childress said.

Thirteen residents displaced by the fire were being helped by the Red Cross. Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
