Best burgers in the Triangle

Thanks for the great burger recommendations! You showered me with suggestions following my story on Al’s Burger Shack in Chapel Hill. I drove by Al’s burger location in Southern Village on my way to the UNC-NCSU basketball game this week and the place was packed!

Several of you recommended that I go to Corbett’s Burgers & Soda Bar in Cary. What a terrific idea! I tried their pimento cheeseburger and added coleslaw. It was fantastic! Cindy raved about her Southern Burger at Corbett’s. That’s the one with chili and slaw.

Joey Wood and two others love the Bernie Burger at Players Retreat in Raleigh. I will check it out soon. Joey says he has been eating the Bernie Burger for 45 years!

Perhaps the most and strongest burger endorsements were for Johnson’s in Siler City. This is the small place just off Highway 64 where they serve burgers with Velveeta. I’ve tried them and they are delicious!

Two people said I’ve just got to visit Melvin’s in Elizabethtown if I really want to find the best burger in the Carolinas.

Darryl Clayton said Wingman’s in Carrboro has a top-notch burger.

Reba McPherson and two others cast their top burger vote for Yarborough’s Ice Cream in Sanford.

The Burger Club consisting of ten men and woman in Raleigh has tested 16 different burger locations. They say Raleigh Times Bar has the best burger they’ve tasted to far.

Dennis Brawner sings the praises of The Burger Shop in Wake Forest. Dennis says you will leave the place with “a gleaming smile of satisfaction.”

A guy identified as “David” said he found his favorite all-time cheeseburger at Hot Sauce and Ketchup on Six Forks Road in Raleigh.

Jill Gooding says you can’t go wrong with the Bacon Jam Cheeseburger at Chapman’s in Southern Pines.

Shearin McGee says I must travel to Fuquay-Varina to try the burgers at Triple Barrel Tavern. Shearin says “all the food is fabulous there.”

Bob’s Grill in Hillsborough also picked up a strong endorsement for their burgers.

My Burke County buddy Joe Brown says his favorite is “a little place in Welcome, NC: Nick’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers.” Joe recommends the single cheeseburger at Nick’s with mustard, white slaw, onions and homemade chili. Joe calls it “a ten napkin burger!”

I agree with Joe. The messier the burger – the better! That is usually the case.

Feel free to send me more food recommendations at bleslie@wral.com. I love hearing from you!
