I had already written two lullabies this year but apparently I’m one song short. The compositions were for my first granddaughter Elizabeth, age 3, and Ava, the next in line at 8 months. The tunes will be on my new Storyteller album to be released in early 2019.

This week, a new family baby entered the world at the same time I used to show up for work at WRAL-TV to anchor the Morning News.

Little Edie was born Wednesday at Raleigh’s Rex Hospital at 3:30 a.m.

As my daughter Lauren, who was also a Rex baby, described Edie: “She’s 6 pounds and 7 ounces of sweet perfection!”

Cindy, big sister Elizabeth and I each got to hold Edie and it was a joy beyond joy.

You never grow tired of that warm feeling of holding new life in your arms.

Edie came a little early but she’s doing great! Her mom and dad are also doing well as they get adjusted to new family addition.

This is the second December baby we’ve had in the family at Rex. My son William was born at Rex nearly 30 years ago. Will’s birthday was December 30, 1988. At the time he was a nice tax deduction!

Christmas is always special for our family but even more so this year. We are extremely grateful for the doctors and nurses who helped bring Edie into the world.

Edie’s middle name is “Lani” which means “heavenly” in Hawaiian. That’s a perfect name for her. And the perfect name for a new song – a new lullaby!
