Bar fight leaves Durham man dead, Wake Forest man wanted for murder

A Wake Forest man is wanted on a murder charge for his role in the death of a man after a fight at a downtown Durham bar last week.

Family members said Teddy Tivnan, 49, died at Duke University Hospital on June 7.

Two days earlier, he was involved in an altercation at Social Games and Brews on Durham's West Main Street.

Mark Cromwell, owner of the bar, called the clash between the two men "a random one-off incident."

Police say Daniel Peter Mohar, 34, hit Tivnan, knocking him over. He hit his head on the pavement. When police arrived, they found Tivnan unconscious on a sidewalk.

On Friday, police charged Mohar with murder, but they had yet to arrest him.

Tivnan's sister said the large family was finding comfort in each other and mourning a man who never met a stranger.

"He had that gregarious personality and smile that just commanded a room when he walked in," said Mary Long, Tivnan's sister.

Tivnan would have turned 50 on Thursday.
