Back-to-school traffic, construction will slow some Cary drivers

Drivers in Cary should be prepared for some congestion Monday as back-to-school traffic and road construction create some slow driving conditions.

Heavy delays are expected in the area of Green Hope High School along Carpenter Upchurch Road, Louis Stephens Drive and Morrisville Parkway.

Commuters should avoid the area and consider alternate routes using N.C. Highway 55, Davis Drive, Morrisville-Carpenter Road and High House Road.

Carpenter Upchurch Road at Green Hope High School remains closed to through traffic.

Police are encouraging parents to put their children on school buses instead of dropping them off at school. Those who do drop off their children should be prepared to wait for an extended period in designated areas.

Parents should not drop off children in areas where they have to cross major streets, railroad tracks or construction zones.

The heavy traffic is expected to subside in about four weeks as the Wake County Public School System works with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to install a state-mandated roundabout.
