Baby Yoda is coming - in Lego form - to this weekend's BrickUniverse

BrickUniverse, the hugely popular event, which sold out in 2019, takes place at the Raleigh Convention Center this weekend - Saturday, March 7, and Sunday, March 8. It offers lots of hands-on building, massive displays, creative experiences, a challenge zone, meet-and-greets with LEGO celebrities, and other activities. It's one of 10 BrickUniverse shows across the country each year, but Raleigh happens to be the flagship event.

Why? Because it all started here.

"We are so excited to be returning to Raleigh for our sixth year," said Greyson Beights, BrickUniverse's founder, in a press release. "We started BrickUniverse right here in Raleigh and have since organized over 30 BrickUniverse conventions around the United States. Our Raleigh event is a special event that families can expect to attend year in and year out. In the past, we have inspired thousands of local families to build and create -and we look forward to continuing that in 2020."

Beights tells me he has some fun new activities and displays planned for this year, including a Spider-Man Building Zone and a big focus on Star Wars.

"With the recent Mandalorian series and Rise of Skywalker movie, Star Wars will be a big part of BrickUniverse Raleigh 2020," he tells me. "There will multiple LEGO Star Wars displays including a massive LEGO Hoth Battle, a LEGO Baby Yoda mosaic, and really cool Mandalorian Mosaic. There will also be an interactive Star Wars Zone with LEGO building tables and photo ops with favorite Star Wars characters."

A massive LEGO Cityscape with moving trains built by Georgia-based LEGO Artist Mark Lorah.

And a LEGO 'Heartlake City' display based on the LEGO Friends line by Nashville-based LEGO Artist Brian Sauls.
