Baby chick from Selma winging her way to victory in national contest

A baby chick rescued by a Selma woman is in the running to win a national contest.

Patricia Wilson, who raises chickens in her backyard, said she rescued Rosaleen the chick after she fell out of a nest.

“As I was walking back to the house with her in my hand, she began gasping for air. I rushed her inside to the heat light. Once she warmed back up and ate, she was just like new," Wilson said.

Wilson submitted a photo of Rosaleen to Purina’s “Strongest Chick in America” contest and the bird was chosen by Facebook users as a finalist.

Rosaleen will now compete against eight other finalists on April 23 to win the title.

If Rosaleen wins, Wilson will receive a year’s supply of poultry feed.
