Officials with the Durham County Sheriff's Office and Durham County Fire Marshall's Office are seeking the public's help in an arson investigation at a historic site in Durham on Monday.

Officials said an alarm on the main house at the Stagville State Historic Site, located at 5828 Old Oxford Road, alerted Durham County Fire to a fire around 6:45 a.m. on Monday.

The Stagville site is part of the former Bennehan-Cameron family plantation — one of the largest in the state — and offers educational programs about the lives and work of the approximately 900 enslaved people who worked the land there, according to the official website.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office criminal investigation division at 919-560-7151 or Durham Crimestoppers at 919-683-1200.
