Fayetteville family has lost 2 to shootings in past few months

A Sunday morning shooting outside a Hope Mills nightclub was in response to an earlier altercation involving a member of a rap group, according to investigators.

Kitric Shavoy Reeves Jr., 28, of Fayetteville, was found shot in the parking lot at 3041 N. Main St. at about 2 a.m., and he died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, police said.

Although he didn't rap himself, Reeves was "the backbone" of the group Deadplay Entertainment, or DPE, which performed up and down the East Coast, his family said.

His mother, Teresa Leslie, said investigators told her that the suspect in the shooting was the same man Reeves got into an altercation with at another club a week ago.

"I don't know if they were away from the club when it happened, or if they were away from the club when the guy decided to shoot him, but they got into an altercation, and the guy pulled out the gun and shot him multiple times," Leslie said Monday. "I don't know how many, but I was just told it was multiple times."

Several vehicles in the area had windows shot out during the incident.

Cumberland County Sheriff's Office investigators were at the scene Monday taking pictures and gathering evidence. They're also reviewing security video from nearby businesses.

Reeves' half-brother, 31-year-old Delaun Parker, was shot to death in April outside an illegal liquor house in Fayetteville.

"We didn't see Delaun a whole lot, but they had their connection," Leslie said of Reeves and Parker. "He was like, 'Mom, I'm lost. I don't know what to say.'"

Right now, the family wants justice for Reeves' death.

"I really want my child back, but I know that's unrealistic," Leslie said.

Investigators said they know a number of people were in the parking lot Sunday morning when the shooting began and would like to speak with them.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Hope Mills Police Department at 910-425-4103 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
