Addy is the fifth most popular doll in the American Girl doll series. But, did you know that the girl she's based on actually spent time in Durham?

Addy Walker's story is based on the life of Mary Walker, who escaped from the owners of what is now Historic Stagville in 1848. The state historic site in Durham will be holding a birthday celebration for Addy at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., April 9. During the programs, which run about two hours each, participants will be able to learn about the similarities and inspirations for the book with activities, games and refreshments.

Space is limited. Reservations are encouraged. The cost is $5.38 per child.

For more information, contact Stephanie Cobert at 919-620-0120. Historic Stagville is located at 5828 Old Oxford Highway, Durham.
