Assault reported on NC State's campus
North Carolina State University police sent a crime alert to students early Wednesday after a female student reported an assault on the north side of Daniels Hall, an academic building in the eastern part of Main Campus.
The student said she was approached around 11 p.m. Tuesday night by a man who started to engage her in conversation and then put his arm around her. The student sprayed the man with pepper spray, ran and was able to call police.
Campus and Raleigh police were actively searching for the man early Wednesday.
Authorities said he was black, 19 to 20 years old and stood about 6 feet 3 inches tall. They said he has a full beard and was wearing a red sweatshirt with a black "S" and blue jeans at the time of the reported assault.
He was also carrying a black bag.

Less than a week ago, a student reported being sexually assaulted near the Free Expression Tunnel, a connector between the central and northern parts of Main Campus.
Campus security has been heightened as a result of the attack, and campus police have urged students to be more vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
Authorities reminded students of the following safety tips:
- Never walk alone at night
- Always choose well lit pathways
- Consider the using the Safety Escort Program, which runs from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. nightly
- Have 911 or 919-515-3000 pre-programmed into your phone
- Report any suspicious activity or persons to Campus Police
- Be aware of your surroundings, don't walk with headphones playing
