Missing: 22-year-old woman kidnapped from Harnett County neighborhood, sheriff's office says

The Ashanti Alert is canceled for a missing woman who was kidnapped from a Harnett County neighborhood.

"Contact has been made with her through several parties," said Major Meredith with the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office before noon. "The alert will be canceled momentarily."

The N.C. Center for Missing Persons issued the alert for Jessi Nicole Cunnius, 22, and said there was evidence of physical endangerment, abduction or kidnapping.

Cunnius was last seen at 1033 Silas Moore Road in Benson in a black 2018 Honda Civic LX with NC plates (KCN2043).

Very few details were shared.

What is an Ashanti Alert?

An Ashanti alert is for adults older than 17 (unlike an Amber Alert). According to the N.C. Center for Missing Persons, the Ashanti Alert establishes a voluntary nationwide communication network to aid in the search and recovery of missing persons between the ages of 18 and 64.

The Ashanti Alert Act was passed in 2018. It was named in honor of Ashanti Billie, who was abducted and killed in 2017.
