Arrest made in Fayetteville slaying

A Fayetteville woman wanted on first-degree murder charges surrendered Thursday to Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies.

Artesia Ann Taylor, 28, of 203 Trace Ave., turned herself into law enforcement officers at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Taylor was charged with the shooting death of Erica Rose Matthews, 22, of Locklear Street. Matthews was found lying on the ground in front of a 2963 Driver St. home at around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

She had been shot and left for dead when deputies arrived. Matthews later died from her injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Taylor was being held Thursday evening at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. Her first court appearance was scheduled for Friday.
