A swimmer died after being pulled from the Bogue Sound on Friday afternoon in Emerald Isle, according to NBC affiliate WITN.

WITN reports that Emerald Island Fire Captain Stuart Gilgo said the call about a swimmer in distress came in during the afternoon hours on Friday. The Coast Guard responded to the incident.

Authorities did not identify the man or give any additional details about his death.

The incident is one of several drownings reported in recent weeks at Emerald Isle.

Donna Due Miller, 49, died Aug. 5 after she was caught in a rip current while swimming with her friend and her friend’s 9-year-old daughter near the coast. Officials said Miller was found face-down in the water and was carried to the shore by onlookers.

On July 25, Troy Strickland, 41, of Scotchburg, Va. died while trying to save a 12-year-old girl during red flag conditions at an Emerald Isle beach.

Authorities said emergency personnel were called to four water rescued in less than an hour on the day Strickland drowned.

Video from the scene that day showed beach-goers forming a human chain to rescue swimmers from the rough surf.
