Four non-profits dedicated to our furry friends topped the voting in the Triangle Christmas Tree Challenge. Winners were announced Saturday night.

The Coalition to Unchain Dogs captured the largest cash prize – $5,000 –  awarded for the tree with the most text votes. In second place, winning $2,500 was Second Chance Pet Adoption. SPCA of Wake County and Best Friend Pet adoption took third and fourth place respectively.

In all, 10 of the more than 50 trees entered won prizes.

The Salvation Army of Wake County's moving depiction of the homeless problem in the Triangle earned the FOX 50 Community First award and a public service announcement campaign on FOX 50, with an estimated value of $2,500.

Other special awards went to the Duke Cancer Patient Support Program, which got a DPAC ticket prize worth up to $2,000, and Children's Flight of Hope, which gets use of the American Tobacco suite at a Durham Bulls game during the 2015 season.

"The Triangle Christmas Tree Challenge was the perfect way to conclude our tenth anniversary because it involves our entire community -- and that special sense of community is what has made the American Tobacco Campus a success,” said Valerie Ward, ATC’s director of marketing and special events.
