Angus Barn earns Wine Spectator top honor

The Angus Barn in Raleigh has earned top honors from Wine Spectator in its annual restaurant awards.

The steakhouse earned the publication's highest honor, The Grand Award, which is given to restaurants that "typically offer 1,000 selections or more, and feature serious breadth of top producers, outstanding depth in mature vintages, large-format bottles, and superior organization, presentation and wine service," according Wine Spectator's website.

More than 80 restaurants in the state earned honors from the publication in its 2015 Restaurant Awards.

Sixteen restaurants in the state earned the Best of Award Excellence. This second-tier award gives "special recognition to restaurants with lists that also display vintage depth or excellent breadth across several regions," according to the website.

In the Triangle area, An and Heron's at the Umstead, both in Cary, One Restaurant in Chapel Hill, Piedmont in Durham and The Fearrington House in Pittsboro earned the Best of Award Excellence title.

More than 60 other restaurants in the state earned the Award of Excellence, which honors restaurants with a "well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style."

Fairview Dining Room in the Washington Duke Inn in Durham, Elements in Chapel Hill and Faire, Second Empire, Player's Retreat and Mandolin in Raleigh are among those from the Triangle to earn the honor.
