Father says boy was snatched from Charlotte yard

Authorities canceled a statewide Amber Alert early Monday after a missing 10-year-old boy was found at his mother's house in Fayetteville.

The alert was issued for Symiir Issa Speaks, who went missing at about 6 p.m. Sunday in Charlotte. Authorities said he was with an unidentified black woman in a Chrysler minivan.

Azzam Pendleton, the boy's father, said Symiir was playing outside his house when someone in the minivan snatched him.

"I don't know exactly who was in the van. That's what police were trying to find out – if it was a relative that he knew, or if they just snatched him," Pendleton said.

Investigators in Charlotte said they believed the boy's disappearance might be part of a domestic dispute, but Pendleton said Symiir's mother doesn't own a vehicle.

Fayetteville Police said detective in Charlotte called them Sunday night asking them to check the mother's home in the Loch Lomand neighborhood. Officers found Symiir and his mother in the house.

The mother provided no resistance, police said, and no one was taken into custody.
