Armed man prompts emergency alert after running away from Raleigh police

Raleigh police have arrested the man they think set off a search and a school lockdown Wednesday.

Just before noon, police alerted Raleigh residents and businesses in the area of Lynn and Glendower roads that they were looking for someone with a gun.

Police said they received a call about a person experiencing a mental health crisis. When officers arrived, they approached a man, who ran away with a weapon in his possession, elevating the level of concern and launching a search.

In response, nearby Hilburn Academy was placed on code yellow lockdown. Classes continued, but exterior doors were locked. It was the second lockdown in two days for the school.

About an hour after the first alert, police were called to the 3600 block of Lynn Road where a car was reported stolen. Investigators linked the two incidents based on the description of the man given by witnesses.

Desmond James Anthony Frazier, 19, was tracked to the area of Millbrook Road and Glenwood Avenue, where he was arrested on the car theft charge. He was also charged with breaking or entering a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, breaking and entering and going armed to the terror of the people.
