Boat tour offers close up of Iceland's glaciers

The natural wonders of Iceland never seem to end.

Our visit to a glacier lagoon required an amphibious vehicle. The Yokel-Sarlon Glacial Lagoon has serene blue water with chunks of ice floating throughout. It is more than 814 feet at its deepest point and flows through a short river into the Atlantic Ocean.

The icebergs visible floating on the water extend into that deep.

Ice chunks float downstream, occasionally bumping into one another as they melt. Seals can be seen resting on glaciers and swimming in the water. It is a seal’s playground because fish are plentiful, and no predators can access the lagoon.
