Head-on crash near RDU hospitalizes six people

A 94-year-old woman has died from a head-on crash on Friday night near Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Six people were hospitalized in total when a Honda Civic and a Honda Odyssey crashed around 8 p.m. on Aviation Parkway north of Airport Boulevard.

Phyllis Renfroe Watson, a passenger in the Odyssey, died in the crash. Watson was from Cary.

State Highway Patrol said everyone else involved in the collision is stable and was treated for their injuries at the hospital.

Rithesh Narayanan of Morrisville was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

A state trooper said there were four people from the sedan and two people from the van taken to the hospital. The trooper did not believe weather played a factor.

Authorities temporaily closed Aviation Parkway in both directions.
