Wayne County sheriff's deputies shot and killed a man Monday afternoon after he ignored verbal commands and raised a shotgun at them.

Deputies received a call at about 3:06 p.m. to a home on the 200 block of Capps Bridge Road in Princeton. The sheriff's office said the man approached deputies with a shotgun.

"After raising the shotgun and ignoring verbal commands, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound from deputies on scene," a release from the sheriff's office states.

WRAL News spoke to the woman who said the home belonged to her mother. She said the didn't live at the home and had no connection to the family.

On Thursday, 911 calls released provide a clearer picture of what happened before the Wayne County deputy shot and killed a man who had a shotgun.

The 911 call was 16 minutes long. During the call, a caller said a man named Chad Pike is walking through her house with a loaded shotgun, demanding to see her husband.

However, the woman's husband had died and she showed him his ashes.

Still, the man was walking through the house, pushing her aside with the loaded shotgun in his hand.

At one point, the woman told the 911 dispatcher she locked herself in her room with a handgun in her hand, waiting. Then, deputies showed up.

The deputies involved are placed on administrative leave until further notice. This is standard for an incident using use of force.

A crew towed an SUV from the scene.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
