Mother's Day is this Sunday, and if you don't have plans to celebrate the special moms and mom-like people in your life, now is the time to get them in order. Here are 9 ways to celebrate.

See a drive-in movie

It's a couple days before Mother's Day, but moms deserve more than one day of celebration. Right? For a fun family movie night, Booth Amphitheatre's Movies by Moonlight series will feature "Trolls World Tour," at 8:15 p.m., Friday. Kids 3 and up will need a ticket to enter the event. And there are no general admission seats. Instead, you can reserve a gold circle table for $30 and room for six people at the table; a crescent deck table for four for $20 or six for $30; or a lawn pod for $20 for no more than four people. Head to Booth Amphitheater's website for more information.

Triangle Drive-In, in the parking lot of Triangle Town Center, will be featuring "Stepmom," at 8:30 p.m., Sunday. The movie stars Susan Sarandon, who plays a divorced mother whose ex-husband marries a character played by Julia Roberts. Tickets are $10 and $7 for kids ages 4 to 12. (The movie is rated PG-13, so make sure it's right for your family before you go.)

See the flowers

Some moms love a good garden, and we have a lot of them around here. (Be sure to check the safety measures and COVID protocols before you go.)

  • Firefly Farm in Hillsborough has u-pick flowers Wednesdays through Saturdays.
  • Juniper Level Botanical Garden in Raleigh has open garden days this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
  • JC Raulston Arboretum, part of NC State, has reopened to the public, but only on the weekdays. So this might be a pre or post-Mother's Day activity.
  • The Raleigh Rose Garden, a favorite place of mine, is open. It's at 301 Pogue St. near Cameron Village and is a great place to see some gorgeous roses and spread out for a picnic.
  • The N.C. Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill is well worth the drive if you're coming from Raleigh. You'll find display gardens there, along with nature trails. It also features a daily plant sale.

Celebrate at the farm

Old Mill Farm in Durham is hosting a special Mother's Day Celebration. You get two hours on the farm where you can bring up to six guests. Take a picnic, feed the farm animals and take part in bouquet arranging, yoga, fishing and lawn games. Mother's Day gift baskets are available for an extra fee. The event is limited to 12 families per time slot. A family pack ticket for up to six guests is $109.

Go for a ride

Oaks & Spokes is planning its annual Mother's Day bike ride and picnic on Sunday, which includes a quick bike ride around Raleigh and then a picnic at Moore Square. A suggested donation of $5 per person will help cover the cost of a light brunch.

Enjoy some food and shopping

Mother's Day Relax and Paint
