An 8-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in Raleigh on July 28, 2014, according to police.

An 8-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in Raleigh on Monday morning, and he was taken to WakeMed with life-threatening injuries.

Police initially said the boy was 6 years old, but later corrected his age.

Investigators say Jahlen Williams was crossing Rock Quarry Road with an adult when he was struck by a vehicle. He was a short distance from the Cross Link Road intersection but was not in a marked crosswalk.

Police did not release the adult's name or say how the adult knows Jahlen, who was listed in critical condition Tuesday morning.

Police released a 911 call made from the scene. On the recording, an unidentified woman tells a dispatcher that the boy has been struck and that people are trying to help him.

"We’ve got probably eight people calling from this same wreck," she said. "The child looks to be about 5 years old. We’re going to try to do CPR on him, but I don’t think it’s going to work."

No other information was released, and no charges have been filed.
