On Monday night, South Carolina's Marlboro County School District approved the hiring of eight high school football coaches from North Carolina. Marlboro County is right over the North Carolina-South Carolina border.

There are a number of notable names in the group.

Cory Johnson will be the head coach for Marlboro County High School after leading Clinton High School in North Carolina to a 61-12 overall record and a 2A state championship appearance over six seasons. Johnson will also be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Dennis McFatten was hired as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach after serving as the head coach at Robeson County's Lumberton High School last season. McFatten is considered by many to be a rising star in the coaching ranks.

Former Pine Forest athletic director and administrator Lonnie Cox will be a teacher and wide receivers coach at Marlboro. Cox previously served as the head coach at Union Pines High School in Moore County and Fairmont High School in Robeson County.

Ryan Hunt, who was on Johnson's staff at Clinton as the defensive coordinator, will be the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for Marlboro County.

Chambers High School associate head coach Hashan Tyson is now the edge rushers coach at Marlboro County.

Johnson, McFatten, Cox, Hunt, and Tyson all coached at Scotland County High School. Former Scotland County athletic director David Johnson is now the principal at Marlboro County High School.

A former Scotland standout Amir McNeill will coach the cornerbacks for Marlboro. McNeil played at NC A&T University and was coaching linebackers at South Carolina State last year. The same goes for former Scotland defensive lineman Karfa Kaba, who will coach his position at Marlboro. Kaba played at both NC Central and NC A&T.

Clinton strength and conditioning coach Dion Norwood was hired to coach running backs at Marlboro.

Marlboro County is coming off of a 3-7 overall season in 2023.
